William M. Novick, M.D., M.S.

Paul Nemir, Jr., M.D., Professor of Surgery and International Child Health at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) in Memphis, Tennessee. He is a member of the Global Surgical Institute and Steering Committee Member of the Center for Multicultural and Global Health at UTHSC. Dr. Novick has been an active advocate and participant in overcoming the disparities in pediatric cardiac care since joining UTHSC in 1993. He founded 2 separate non-profits to provide pediatric cardiac care to children in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) and has operated in over 30 countries and 50 institutions.

He represented the university first, as Gen. Secretary of the Student Union, then as President of the London Medical Group (an ethical society).

Dr Marcelo Cardarelli

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and graduated from University of Buenos Aires. After his initial training in cardiac surgery in Argentina, Dr. Cardarelli completed a series of residencies and fellowships at Texas Heart Institute, Children Hospital of Philadelphia, and Boston Children Hospital. Dr. Cardarelli was Director of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at University of Maryland Hospital for Children for nearly 18 years and staff pediatric cardiac surgeon at Inova Children Hospital until December 2022.

In 2006, Dr. Cardarelli obtained his master’s degree in public health from the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. Alongside, his area of research has transitioned from purely clinical towards cost-effectiveness of health interventions and other aspects of health financing.

Since 2012 Dr. Cardarelli has worked as volunteer and staff surgeon in multiple surgical missions with Dr. Novick’s teams and in 2014 co-founded The William Novick Global Cardiac Alliance.
